Background

Amber is a 4-star Pyro character that uses a bow. She first appears within the game to show the Traveler the way to the city of Mondstadt. As a member of the Knights of Favonius, it is Amber’s duty to keep the city and its residents safe from harm. She has been given the title of Outrider and is currently the Gliding Champion of all of Mondstadt. Amber will take on any task big or small, to accomplish her mission of protecting Mondstadt.
Amber always had a cheerful and bubbly personality, even as a child. She was known to be full of energy and would always cause trouble for the Knights of Favonius. This ultimately caused trouble for her grandfather, who would always be stuck with cleaning up the mess she had caused. Her grandfather was a former mercenary, who joined the Knights of Favonius after a group of bandits killed his party, leaving him the sole survivor. He then created the Outriders and trained each member personally to go out on missions. Amber is currently the only Outrider left in the Knights of Favonius.
Fun Fact: Amber’s grandfather was originally from Liyue.
Being a young member of the Knights of Favonius had its share of problems for Amber. After the disappearance of her grandfather, the Outriders were left without a leader and its membership rapidly declined. Amber wanted to keep the legacy of the Outriders alive, but didn’t have the experience needed to lead the group. However, she did have confidence and the determination to become a protector of Mondstadt, just like her grandfather.
Amber received her vision after realizing that she needed to take action herself and not wait for the directions of others. She had been lost after her grandfather left, and struggled with finding her own path without him. After realizing she couldn’t wait for someone else to carve her path, a vision appeared within her hands.
Amber Skill Talents
As a Pyro bow-user, Amber’s aimed shot is useful in completing many of the puzzles in the overworld. Her damage output is weaker than other characters, but she can still be a viable option to any team if built correctly.

Amber’s normal attack, Sharpshooter, can fire up to 5 attacks from her bow in a standard attack cycle. She has the same hit damage with her bow as Diona, but is outmatched by Fischl who does more damage per hit. Amber can also imbue her charged attack with Pyro and attack enemies. Amber’s charged attack is also incredibly useful in exploring the overworld as many of the puzzles require lighting something up with Pyro. Her charged attack will be the main damage output for her DPS build as it is capable of triggering reactions, allowing her to deal more damage.

Amber’s elemental skill, Explosive Puppet, allows Amber to throw out a Baron Bunny in any direction. She can hold down the skill to adjust the direction and distance of where it is thrown. Once launched, the Baron Bunny will constantly taunt enemies to come and attack it. When the Baron Bunny is destroyed or its 8-second timer runs out, it will deal Pyro DMG to surrounding enemies caught in the blast. The cooldown of this skill is 15 seconds. The damage scaling of this talent is weaker than the elemental skills of other 4-star characters, and the taunt doesn’t always work. The range of the taunt is also rather short, requiring you to position the bunny correctly to get the attention of the enemies. Both her C2, C4, and C5, will boost the power of the Baron Bunny and are needed to maximize its damage. The doll’s HP scales off of Amber’s Max HP.

Amber’s elemental burst, Fiery Rain, fires off a shower of arrows to deal AoE Pyro DMG to enemies. The height the arrows fall from is fixed, so it may not hit enemies who are too far off the ground. The damage of Amber’s burst consists of multiple damages instead of just 1 big blast. The damage scaling is decent, but not all hits will damage the enemies as the arrows might miss them. Amber’s blast will deal 18 waves of hits over a 2-second duration. It has a cooldown of 12 seconds with an energy cost of 40. Amber’s burst will be cast right in front of her, so Amber will need to be careful about the enemy coming too close to her when she uses her burst.
In co-op, Amber is best used to deal damage with her array of Pyro attacks. Triggering reactions will be her main use as her damage scaling isn’t the best out there. Baron Bunny can also be used to taunt the enemies. I recommend having Amber at a high constellation level so she can compete with other units who outmatch her in many other ways. Amber doesn’t gain a support skill until C6.
Amber Passive Talents

Ambers first passive talent, Gliding Champion, decreases the gliding stamina consumption of all party members while Amber is in the party. This is a great talent to ensure you can glide longer distances without running out of stamina. Amber shares a smilier talent with Venti, and the effects will not stack.
Amber’s ascension 1 talent, Every Arrow Finds Its Target, increases the Crit Rate of her elemental burst and widen its range. Amber’s elemental burst can deal continuous Pyro DMG to enemies within its range. This talent will increase its chance to land a critical hit and expand the range of her burst. The 10% Crit Rate buff isn’t powerful on its own, but can be paired with her weapon and artifact set to ensure her elemental burst will have a high chance of dealing a critical hit when it hits an enemy.
Her ascension talent 4, Precise Shot, will increase Amber’s attack when her aimed shot hits the weak spot of an enemy. The success of this talent will depend on her ability to land a hit with her aimed shot on an enemy’s weak point. This is great against larger enemies who have a noticeable weak point, but might be harder for some players against smaller enemies. The 10-second duration of the buff is also great, as Amber can reapply the buff by hitting the enemy’s weak point again.
Amber will get an ATK% based on her ascension rank.
Gliding Champion Unlocked Automatically Decreases gliding stamina consumption for your own party members by 20%. Not stackable with Passive Talents that provide the exact same effects. |
Every Arrow Finds Its Target Unlocked at Ascension 1 Increases the CRIT Rate of Fiery Rain by 10% and widens its AoE by 30%. |
Precise Shot Unlocked at Ascension 4 Aimed Shot hits on weak spots increase ATK by 15% for 10s. |
Amber Constellations

Amber’s constellation levels are needed to bring her up to par with the other characters. I recommend having her at least at C2 before you start building her.
C1: One Arrow to Rule Them All will allow Amber to fire 2 arrows instead of 1 with her aimed shot. The second arrow’s damage is based on 20% of the original arrow’s DMG, but has a chance to hit a critical hit that is separate from the main arrow. The second arrow will also allow the first arrow to travel a short distance further due to the way they were fired. 20% of the original arrow’s DMG is lackluster, and only adds a small boost in damage unless you land a critical hit with the first and second arrow. The second arrow will also be fired at a different angle so accurately hitting an enemy with it has its own set of problems.
At C2: Bunny Triggered, Amber can manually detonate the Baron Bunny with her fully-charged aimed shot. This explosion will deal more damage than if it is triggered by the enemy or if the timer runs out. This constellation will help her elemental skill deal more damage, but will require you to hit the bunny yourself for it to activate.
C4: It’s Not Just Any Doll… decreases Amber’s elemental skill cooldown by 20%, bringing the cooldown down by 3 seconds. It will also add 1 more charge to her elemental skill. The extra charge is great and when combined with the cooldown decrease allows Amber to consistently deal damage with her elemental skill.
At C6: Wildfire, Amber gains a support skill that will increase the entire party’s movement speed and attack for 10 seconds after she casts her burst. This skill will help the team’s damage output and allow them to move more effectively in battle. This constellation is the only support skill Amber will gain, aside from the gliding stamina reduction of her passive talent.
Constellation Levels | Effects |
---|---|
C1: One Arrow to Rule Them All | Fires 2 arrows per Aimed Shot. The second arrow deals 20% of the first arrow’s DMG. The second arrow is fired 10 degrees vertically below actual aiming, has separate critical, and also makes the primary shot travel further before it starts dropping down. |
C2: Bunny Triggered | Baron Bunny, new and improved! Hitting Baron Bunny’s foot with a fully-charged Aimed Shot manually detonates it. Explosion via manual detonation deals 200% additional DMG. |
C3: It Burns! | Increases the level of Fiery Rain by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15. |
C4: It’s Not Just Any Doll… | Decreases Explosive Puppet’s CD by 20%. Adds 1 additional charge. |
C5: It’s Baron Bunny! | Increases the level of Explosive Puppet by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15. |
C6: Wildfire | Fiery Rain increases the entire party’s Movement SPD by 15% and ATK by 15% for 10s. |
Recommended Builds
Charged Shot

As a Pyro archer, Amber’s main use will often be her charged shot that is infused with the element of Pyro. Her charged shot is not only helpful against enemies, but can be used to light up torches and puzzles. This build for Amber focuses on her aimed shot, primarily her charged attack. You will want to build up her normal attack talent. If you have Amber at C2, you can also build up her elemental skill as you can manually detonate her Baron Bunny now. This build can work for any constellation level of Amber.
For Amber’s teammates, I recommend adding another Pyro character like Xiangling or Bennett to increase Amber’s ATK from the Pyro team resonance. Fischl will be used to trigger Electro reactions and can deal passive Electro DMG when she is not on the field. Lastly, Barbara will be used to heal the team and apply Hydro to enemies for reactions. This team focuses on passive damage, while Amber charges up her shoots. They are also all 4-star characters so they should be fairly easy to obtain.
Amber’s main weapon should be the 5-star Amos’ Bow because of its ability to increase her ATK and normal attack damage. This weapon is great for this build as it will also increase the damage from her aimed shots. Also, the Amos’ Bow will further increase Amber’s damage after she uses a normal or charged attack. The 5-star Skyward Harp can also be used to increase her Crit Rate and Crit DMG instead. This weapon can also deal an additional Physical ATK to enemies.
For her 4-star recommended weapon, go for the 4-star Prototype Crescent from the blacksmith. This weapon will increase her ATK. It will also boost Amber’s ATK and Movement SPD after she lands a hit on an enemy’s weak point with her aimed shot. This weapon fits perfectly for this build for Amber, but it does require players to accurately hit a weak point before the effects can trigger.
If you have access to the battle pass, the 4-star The Viridescent Hunt can be another viable option for you to use. This weapon will not only increase Amber’s Crit Rate, but can generate a cyclone that will pull enemies together and make them an easier target for her elemental skills to hit.
In the early game, you have multiple options to pick from. You can use the 3-star Messenger, Sharpshooter’s Oath, or the Slingshot. They all have a passive effect that will increase her damage when hitting an enemy’s weak point. The Messenger and Sharpshooter’s Oath will boost Amber’s Crit DMG, while the Slingshot will boost her Crit Rate.
The best artifact set for Amber is the 4-piece Wanderer’s Troupe. This set will both power up her reaction damage and her charged attack.
For the early game, you can use a 4-piece Berserker set to increase her Crit Rate or a mix of the Berserker and Brave Heart set to increase her Crit Rate and ATK% instead.
For the artifact’s main stat:
- Sands: ATK%
- Goblet: Pyro DMG%
- Circlet: Crit DMG or Crit Rate
For the sub-stats, you should focus on Crit DMG, Crit Rate, and ATK%. Energy recharge isn’t needed if you have another Pyro character on the team and Amber already has a small energy requirement for her burst. HP also isn’t necessary as you will want the Baron Bunny to explode as soon as possible to deal damage to enemies. Its taunt ability isn’t the best, so that shouldn’t be its main use.
Sub-DPS Build

Although her burst only lasts for 2 seconds, it recharges fairly quickly as it comes with only a 40 energy requirement. This build for Amber will allow you to switch in and out with your main DPS to deal damage while waiting for Amber’s burst to fully recharge.
For her teammates, you will want a main DPS like Ganyu who is capable of dealing reaction damage with Amber. Both of Ganyu’s and Amber’s burst can be paired together to deal Melt damage when enemies are caught in both of them. The hard part will be positioning Amber’s burst correctly so it can trigger Melt when Ganyu’s burst hits an enemy. You can switch out Ganyu for another DPS character. Bennett is an overall great support character that can heal and buff his teammates with his elemental burst. Sucrose will serve as crowd control for enemies to pull them together to make them easier to hit with Amber’s burst. She can also transfer some of her elemental mastery to other characters, helping them boost their reaction damage.
For Amber’s weapon, you can use a 5-star weapon like the Skyward Harp or Amos’ Bow, but that should be reserved for Ganyu as it will help boost her overall damage. However, there is a 5-star bow that will be perfect for this build if you have access to it. The 5-star Elegy for the End has a passive in Energy Recharge and grants the character and any nearby party members a buff when 4 Sigils of Remembrance are collected. This weapon is great for Amber as she can give Ganyu an extra buff to her elemental mastery and ATK. However, it is a limited-time weapon, so many players will not have access to it.
I recommended giving Amber the 4-star The Stringless or Alley Hunter. The Stringless will boost Amber’s elemental mastery and power up the damage of her elemental skill and burst. You can also use the Alley Hunter, which will increase her ATK instead. This weapon will give Amber a buff that will increase her ATK while she is not on the field, but will decrease the buff when she is on the field. This weapon is a tricky one to learn as the more time Amber is on the field, the less beneficial it is to her. However, with a sub-DPS Amber, she will quickly use her elemental skill or burst and then switch out to another character, allowing her to minimize the loss of the ATK buff.
Another decent option is the 4-star Sacrificial Bow, which will increase her Energy Recharge. This weapon has a passive where damaging to an enemy with her elemental skill has a chance to end its cooldown. This weapon isn’t the best for this build, as Amber’s elemental skill doesn’t have a long cooldown, and she doesn’t need a lot of Energy Recharge either. Likewise, the 4-star Favonius Warbow can be another option if you have a lot of Crit Rate on Amber, as she can provide energy for the team when she lands a critical hit. This weapon does require Amber to stay on the field and attack.
For Amber’s artifact set, you can use the 2-piece Noblesse Oblige and Crimson Heart of Flame to boost the power of her elemental burst and Pyro DMG. You can also use the 4-piece Noblesse Oblige if you want to give your main DPS a power-up.
The Exile or Scholar set can also be viable options to provide energy for the entire team and to boost her own Energy Recharge. The Scholar’s 4-piece bonus will only give energy to those equipped with a bow or catalyst.
Amber’s artifact main stats should be:
- Sands: ATK%
- Goblet: Pyro DMG%
- Circlet: Crit DMG or Crit Rate
For her sub-stats, you should focus on Crit Rate, Crit DMG, and ATK%. Energy Recharge and Elemental Mastery are also decent for this build.
Recommended Party Members
Xiangling and Amber will activate the Pyro team resonance, giving the party a 25% increase to their attack. She can also be used to increase Amber’s ATK after her elemental skill ends.
Fischl can deal passive Electro DMG with her elemental skill. She is also great to deal Electro reactions.
Barbara will act as a healer and can apply the Hydro status to enemies.
Sucrose will boost the reaction damage of her party. She will also be used for crowd control.
Bennett will increase your main DPS and Amber’s ATK while also healing them with his burst.
Ganyu is a great Cryo DPS character with a wide range on her elemental burst. She can be replaced with another Main DPS of your choice.
Advantages | Disadvantages |
---|---|
Access to Pyro ATKs with her charged shot | Elemental Burst may not always hit enemies |
Low energy cost for her burst | Needs to be at higher constellation levels to be viable |
Decreases gliding consumption of the entire party | Low DMG scaling in her elemental skill |
Recommended Domains: Cecilia Garden, Hidden Palace of Lianshan Formula, Forsaken Rift, Midsummer Courtyard, Peak of Vindagnyr, Andrius, Stormterror
Conclusion

Amber is the first character that will join your party. Although she does have her uses, she is often ignored and placed in the background. Compared to other characters, Amber requires a high constellation level to be viable in battle. At lower constellation levels, she is best used to light up puzzles on the map since her damage output isn’t the greatest. However, if built correctly, she can be a stable member of any team.
