Background

Albedo is the Chief Alchemist and Captain of the Investigation Team for the Knights of Favonius. He seeks out the truth of the world they live in and has a particular interest in the traveler after realizing they are not from Teyvat. Albedo also has a habit of leaving things unfinished as he can easily grow bored with his research and move on to a new project. However, he will often go into long rants if he finds the topic interesting.

Albedo is a talented artist and can create living organisms with alchemy. Alchemy was not widely known in Mondstadt and was considered a lost art until Albedo appeared and showed its true powers. He took in Sucrose and Timaeus as his assistant to help him out on his research.

genshin impact Albedo backstory
Albedo’s painting

Fun Fact: Albedo is good at handling children like Klee and Paimon.

Although he is popular amongst the people in Mondstadt, Albedo doesn’t like to show himself in public. He doesn’t like the energy that is used to maintain a healthy relationship and will often distance himself from people. As a result, Albedo will often get lost in his research and shut himself away from the world by traveling the world and gathering materials. No one knows where he will be, besides his two assistants.

Albedo is a 5-star Geo character that uses a sword from the region of Mondstadt. He first appears within the story in Dragonspine where the traveler helps him with his research.

Albedo Skill Talents

Albedo’s skill set consists of a powerful burst and versatile elemental skill. He can act as a geo support character specializing in DEF or CRIT DMG.

genshin impact albedo's attack
Albedo’s normal attack

His normal attack talent, Favonius Bladework – Weiss, can perform up to 5 strikes on an enemy. This is where Albedo is lacking the most in damage since this skill doesn’t scale well compared to other units, especially with a 4-star weapon. As a support character, this talent won’t be used often.

genshin impact albedo's elemental skill
Albedo’s elemental skill

Albedo’s elemental skill, Abiogenesis: Solar Isotoma, creates a geo construct that will deal Geo DMG after an enemy is hit. The radius of his geo construct is massive and can reach a good portion of the surrounding area. The DMG from his geo construct scales based on his DEF, but can only affect the enemies every 2 seconds. The time limit can be restrictive as not all of your attacks will resonant with its effects. Only 1 of his geo construct can exist at one time, but the effects of his geo construct will still be in effect even if he switches to another character. The duration is 30 seconds while it only takes 4 seconds to recharge. This long duration period allows Albedo to switch into another character and deal damage with them. This skill is also useful to generate a lot of energy particles for himself and the entire team. The energy from his elemental skill will often fill up his burst energy faster than the cooldown of the burst itself. Albedo’s elemental skill can also act as a platform to lift a character up if they stand on top of it. This can be useful to climb up to areas or allow characters to attack from above.

Genshin impact albedo ultimate
Albedo’s elemental burst

Albedo’s elemental burst, Rite of Progeniture: Tectonic Tide, allows him to deal massive AoE Geo DMG in front of him. If Albedo is in the radius of his geo construct, his burst will also create 7 Fatal Blossoms to burst inside his field effect and deal Geo DMG. The cooldown is only 12 seconds with an energy cost of 40. The short cooldown and low energy cost will allow Albedo to consistently use his ultimate in battle. It is recommended to use his elemental skill first then his burst to maximize its damage. The DMG from his burst will not trigger the effects of his geo construct. It will also be hard to accurately hit the enemy with all 7 of his Fatal Blossoms since they are aimed in different positions. Albedo’s burst doesn’t deal one big AoE blast like Zhongli, but deals smaller blasts with greater quantity.

Albedo will be useful in co-op, as a support character and burst DPS. He can reliably trigger his burst while providing energy for the entire team with his elemental skill. His normal attack will be lacking compared to his other teammates, but his skills can make up for it. Albedo can also boost the elemental mastery of nearby teammates to power up the power of their elemental reactions.

Albedo Passive Talents

Genshin Impact Albedo skill
Albedo’s talent screen

Albedo’s ascension talents offer a mix of offensive and supportive skills. This makes him a very versatile unit that can deal damage while improving the reactions of nearby party members.

His first talent, Flash of Genius, allows Albedo to gain double the amount of any weapon ascension material if he is used to craft them. Although the percentage is only 10%, this skill is still helpful to save some time on resource hunting. It will mostly depend on your luck, but it can help save you time and resin on farming these materials to ascend your weapons.

Calcite Might allow Albedo’s Transient Blossoms to deal more DMG when enemies have less than 50% of their HP. This skill is decent to deal more damage with his elemental skill, but it is limited to only enemies with less than half their health left. It will be useful to deal passive damage while your main DPS finishes off the enemies.

Albedo’s second ascension talent, Homuncular Nature, increases the elemental mastery of nearby party members after he uses his elemental burst. This skill can boost the damage of elemental reactions, allowing his teammates to do more damage.

Note: Albedo gets a boost to his Geo DMG% based on his ascension level.

Albedo Constellations

albedo c0 build
Albedo’s constellations

At his base constellation level, Albedo is already a powerful character with his elemental burst that has a short cooldown and high energy generation. It is not necessary to get him to a high constellation level necessary for him to be viable, but it does add some strong abilities to his skill set.

C1: Flower of Eden allows Albedo to generate even more energy after his elemental skill generates a Transient Blossom. This skill gives Albedo a consistent source of energy every 2 seconds his geo construct is on the field. However, it does not transfer to other characters.

C2: Opening of Phanerozoic boosts the damage of Albedo’s elemental burst. This effect scales off of his DEF stat. After Albedo uses his elemental burst, all of the Fatal Reckoning stacks will be consumed and deal increased DMG with his burst. This constellation effect is helpful if you plan to build up his DEF.

C4: Descent of Divinity isn’t viable right now in the game because it only boosts the damage of plunging attacks. Other characters can make use of this constellation level by riding his geo construct and plunging down on enemies.

C6: Dust of Purification increases the DMG of every teammate in the radius of his elemental skill. This makes Albedo an even better support character that can buff his teammates.

Constellation LevelsEffects
C1: Flower of EdenTransient Blossoms generated by Albedo’s Abiogenesis: Solar Isotoma regenerate 1.2 Energy for Albedo.
C2: Opening of Phanerozoic
Transient Blossoms generated by Abiogenesis: Solar Isotoma grant Albedo Fatal Reckoning for 30s:
Each stack of Fatal Reckoning increases DMG of Albedo’s DEF.
The effect stacks up to 4 times.
Unleashing Rite of Progeniture: Tectonic Tide consumes all stacks of Fatal Reckoning, increasing the DMG dealt by the Tectonic Tide and Fatal Blossoms based on the number of stacks consumed.
C3: Grace of HeliosIncreases the level of Abiogenesis: Solar Isotoma by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.
C4: Descent of DivinitySolar Isotoma increases Plunging Attack DMG by 30% for active party members within the AoE.
C5: Tide of HadaenIncreases the level of Rite of Progeniture: Tectonic Tide by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.
C6: Dust of PurificationIf active party members within the AoE are protected by a shield created by Crystallize, Solar Isotoma increases their DMG by 17%.

Burst

Albedo c0 build
Burst Build

Albedo has a powerful elemental burst that has a short cooldown and low energy cost. This allows Albedo to recharge his burst a lot faster than other characters, especially with the use of his elemental skill. This build maximizes the damage of his burst to deal the most damage possible through the use of Crit DMG%. Albedo can work well with many team compositions so his teammates can easily be switched out with other characters. I recommend having another geo character to increase Attack DMG% and decrease your interruption resistance. I chose Ningguang over Zhongli because she is more easily obtained. Ningguang can also increase Albedo’s Geo DMG% by passing through her Jade Screen. The talents you should max out are his elemental burst & skill. His normal attack can be ignored since you won’t be using it often.

For Albedo’s recommended weapon, the Skyward Blade or the Festering Desire will work great with him. They both increase his energy recharge, which isn’t needed due to his high natural energy regeneration. Not a lot of other swords will work with Albedo since a lot of them can’t properly utilize his skill set. The Skyward Blade is a 5-star weapon that can increase his Crit Rate by 4%, but its other effects won’t help with his burst DMG. Festering Desire can be easily obtained through the Chalk Prince event and will increase the DMG and Crit Rate of his elemental skill.

Another 5-star weapon, Summit Shaper, will also be good for Albedo, but is limited to an exclusive weapons banner. This weapon will increase Albedo’s ATK and shield strength. When he is protected by a shield, his ATK will get an additional boost.

The Blackcliff Longsword can also be used to increase Albedo’s Crit DMG. This weapon will increase his ATK% after defeating an enemy and can be purchased at the Starglitter Exchange.

For 3-star weapons, the Harbinger of Dawn and Skyrider Sword are good options for Albedo to use. The Harbinger of Dawn will increase his CRIT DMG and its secondary effect will increase his Crit Rate if his health is above 90%. The Skyrider Sword will increase Albedo’s ATK after using his elemental burst.

For his artifact set, using a 2-piece Archaic Petra and 2-piece Noblesse Oblige will strengthen Albedo’s Geo DMG% and Elemental burst DMG%. This will allow Albedo to deal massive damage with his burst. The stats you should mainly focus on are Crit DMG% and Crit Rate% to deal the most damage possible. You can also focus on Geo DMG% and ATK% to further build up your damage output. Energy recharge is a decent sub-stats on Albedo, but he already has high energy regeneration so it isn’t necessary. DEF is another decent option if you have bad rolls on an artifact. However, it will only increase the damage of his geo construct since his elemental burst does not scale on his DEF.

Support

albedo support build
Albedo Support Build

This build focuses on Albedo’s potential as a support character like Fischl who can deal reliable Geo DMG when he is on and off the field. Albedo’s elemental skill has a duration of 30 seconds, but the cooldown is 4 seconds. This allows him to continuously put up his geo construct and move it around the battlefield. He pairs nicely with Zhongli whose elemental skill deals Geo DMG when his geo construct meets another one. Like his other build Albedo can synergize well with many characters. You will want to focus on maxing out Albedo’s elemental skill to get the most damage out of his geo construct. His burst will also be helpful to deal some extra Geo DMG if needed. Like the other build, his normal attack can be ignored. This build is also perfect for a DPS Albedo with sight modifications.

For his recommended weapon, either the Skyward Blade or the Festering Desire will work well with this build. The Festering Desire will increase his Elemental Skill DMG and Elemental Skill Crit Rate. I personally like the Festering Desire for this build because it would benefit his elemental skill more. The Skyward Blade is a good option, but Albedo can’t fully utilize it without building him up as a DPS unit.

The Summit Shaper is another 5-star weapon that will boost Albedo’s ATK instead of energy recharge. This weapon will increase his shield strength and overall ATK when he scores a hit on an enemy. This buff will further be increased when Albedo is protected by a shield. This weapon is geared toward a more DPS build than a support one if you want to go down that route.

Another weapon you can use is the 4-star Blackcliff Longsword. This weapon increases Albedo’s Crit DMG. Its secondary effect will boost his ATK after defeating an enemy. You can also use The Black Sword to boost up his Crit Rate instead.

If you have a max refinement level Harbinger of Dawn it will outclass the Festering Desire and deal more damage overall with a DEf build.

For his artifact set, the 4-piece Archaic Petra will increase Albedo’s Geo DMG and give his entire party extra damage after he collects an elemental shard through the crystalize effect. This will only increase DMG for the elemental shard that Albedo collects. You can also go for a 4-piece Noblesse Oblige to give a buff to the character he switches to. A 2-piece Archaic Petra and Defender’s Will will also suffice to give Albedo a boost to his Geo DMG and DEF%. However, Defender’s Will is only available as a 4-star and won’t have better stats than a 5-star artifact. For the stats you want to focus on, building up Albedo’s DEF will increase the DMG of his geo construct. Geo DMG should be the main stat on your goblet. His geo construct can also deal critical hits so Crit DMG and Crit Rate are also decent options. Focus more on ATK instead of DEF if you want to build Albedo as a DPS.

DEF Build

DEF Build

This build focuses on the 3-star weapon Harbinger of Dawn and Albedo’s elemental skill. It will overall deal more damage with his geo construct than the Festering Desire if you have it at maxed refinement level. It is similar to the Support Build, but uses a different weapon. The Harbinger of Dawn will increase Albedo’s Crit DMG. It will also increase his Crit Rate by 28% if it is at max refinement level. Below is a video by Krush SG that will fully explain why the Harbinger of Dawn is a powerful weapon when paired with Albedo’s elemental skill. It will also be incredibly useful at C2!

Skill Support Build

Skill Support Albedo Build

This build uses both the Husk of Opulent Dreams artifact set and the Cinnabar Spindle to maximize the damage of Albedo’s skill that deals damage to the enemy every 2 seconds they are damaged within its range. The 4-star Cinnabar Spindle is an event reward from Shadows Amidst Snowstorms Event and can be easily refined to R5, making it a great free-to-play option. This weapon has a passive in DEF and boosts the damage of Albedo’s elemental skill by 80% when at R5. The effects will be cleared after the elemental skill deals damage, but it will be refreshed again after 1.5 seconds. This weapon is great at boosting Albedo’s elemental skill damage but doesn’t do anything to boost the damage of his damage unless you have Albedo at constellation 2. Another weapon option you have is the 3-star Harbinger of Dawn, which boosts Crit DMG and has passive that will boost Crit Rate when Albedo is above 90% HP.

For Albedo’s artifact set, the Husk of Opulent Dreams boosts his DEF and Geo DMG. This artifact set works off the field and on the fields to gain a Curiosity stack. When on the field, Albedo must hit the enemy with a Geo attack, while he will automatically gain it every 3 seconds when off the field. It can stack up to 4 times, providing a boost to Albedo’s DEF and Geo DMG. As an off-field support, Albedo can easily gain the stacks. The effects of 1 stack will disappear if another stack is not gained every 6 seconds. This artifact set fits Albedo perfectly as his elemental skill can deal increased damage, while he is off the field, passively gaining the stacks.

Albedo’s main artifact stats should be:

  • Sands: DEF%
  • Goblet: Geo DMG%
  • Circlet: Crit Rate or Crit DMG or DEF%

Bennett is a powerful support character that can buff ATK and heal his teammates. You can use his elemental burst to powerful up Albedo’s burst DMG.

Having two geo characters will increase ATK DMG when protected by a shield. Ningguang can also give a buff to Albedo’s Geo DMG with her Jade Screen.

Fischl can deal reliable Electro DMG. She can also use Albedo’s platform to attack from above.

Zhongli’s elemental skill works well with other geo constructs. His DPS potential will also be boosted with two geo characters in the same team.

Diona can provide a shield and heal with her elemental burst. She can also deal Cryo DMG to enemies.

The traveler can increase the Crit Rate of everyone inside the effects of his elemental burst with his C1.

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Reliable Geo DMG with his geo constructNot a lot of weapons pair well with his skillset
Fast cooldown on both his elemental skill and burstNormal attack doesn’t scale well with a 4-star weapon
High energy regenerationGeo construct’s platform can stop your attacks if accidentally stepped on during a fight

Recommended Domains: Clear Pool and Mountain CavernChilde Boss FightPeak of Vindagnyr

Conclusion

Genshin Impact Albedo theories
Albedo explaining the orgins of life

Albedo is a versatile character that can provide reliable Geo DMG and power-up the reactions of his teammates. He has a short cooldown on both his elemental skill and burst, allowing Albedo to spam them on the battlefield. He isn’t fitted to be on the frontline and is more geared toward providing support in the background. Overall, Albedo can work well in many team compositions as a geo support character.
